William
Graduate Trainee
William often works with people who have tried everything — including therapy — and still feel at a loss about how to make room for change. Many have spent years trying to think their way through depression, grief, anxiety, or stress: reading, reflecting, developing insight, only to find themselves back in the same place. Others are still going, but no longer sure how — or whether the direction they've been following was ever truly their own. Sometimes this shows up as a recurring sense of almost: a feeling that something meaningful stays just out of reach.
William believes we live in a world that leaves little space for the dignity of emotion. He works from psychodynamic and existential perspectives, attending as much to what happens between therapist and client as to what is spoken about directly. He understands therapy as a living encounter, where what emerges between two people can become something new. He takes play seriously, welcoming humor and creativity into the room, and he trusts that something in each person already knows more than it can currently say, and that together they can explore what hasn't yet found words.
Through that process, something can begin to loosen. Narratives that have long shaped a person's experience can lose their grip. Patterns that once served a purpose, but have become exhausting to maintain, can be set down. What once couldn't be grasped becomes felt; a person's own voice comes through more clearly beneath the noise; ways of living that seemed out of reach begin to feel possible.
William is completing his master's in existential-phenomenological psychology at Seattle University and has worked in community mental health and crisis services. He sees clients at a reduced fee, supervised by our team and his school's supervisors. Outside the therapy room, he makes music, watches films, and gets outdoors whenever he can.
